The contract is initially limited to 3 years (extension possible), 39.2 hours\/week (100% position). The position is in the Statistical Modeling of Secondary and Registry Data Unit. The research interests of the unit are new statistical methods to estimate the use, effects, and risks of medications based on secondary data and to estimate the progress as well as the survival of cancer. The unit has extensive statistical expertise for studies based on the German pharmacoepidemiological research database (GePaRD) that has been established at BIPS and on the Bremen Cancer Registry. In particular, the research focuses on strategies to avoid sources of bias such as the target trial emulation approach (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bips-institut.de\/en\/research\/cross-departmental-working-groups\/working-group-gepard-target-trials-for-causal-inference-gettcausal.html\">https:\/\/www.bips-institut.de\/en\/research\/cross-departmental-working-groups\/working-group-gepard-target-trials-for-causal-inference-gettcausal.html<\/a>) and methods for dealing with time-dependent and\/or unmeasured confounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note that remote working is NOT possible for this position.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We seek an excellent, open-minded, and team-spirited PhD candidate who is interested in statistical aspects of secondary data analysis and applications in epidemiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Develop new statistical methods for secondary data analysis and apply them to GePaRD data<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Develop and prepare statistical analysis plans for target trial emulation in e.g. post-authorization safety studies and conduct the analyses<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Publish and present research results<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Master\u2019s degree (or equivalent) in (Bio-)statistics or Mathematics<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Experience in planning of epidemiological studies and\/or the analysis of data from statutory health insurances would be desirable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Programming skills in SAS and R<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Good knowledge of spoken and written English; German would be desirable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Initiative, motivation, commitment, and scientific curiosity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We offer a structured PhD program, exciting research topics, a stimulating international environment, a good infrastructure, close ties to the University of Bremen, and an engaged, supportive, and cooperative team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disabled applicants will be given priority conditional on equal professional and personal qualifications.
