Ioanna Tzoulaki is Director of Research at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. She is also a Professor in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London.
Her research activity focuses on molecular epidemiology, precision medicine and translational research. Her research studies the role of environmental and genetic factors in cardiometabolic diseases and neurodegenerative diseases and has been funded by the European Union (EC), the USA (NIH) and Greece (GGET, ELIDEK, ESPA).
She has contributed as an expert and consultant to international organizations such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the UK Department of Health, Expert Advisory Committee, and the Norwegian Research Council. Among other things, he has been a member of the Sectoral Scientific Council of Biology-Medicine (2021-2022) for the National Research, Technology & Innovation Council (ESETEK) and vice chair of the MSCA Doctoral Networks Panel of the European Commission.
Her research work is in the top 1% of her research field worldwide (Highly Cited Researchers 2020) and she has been honored with the L'Oréal-UNESCO Prize for Women in Science (2019).
In December 2023, the bibliographic database pubmed published 233 scientific papers. The Google Scholar database recorded 35,677 bibliographic references and a Hirsch index (h-index) of 88.
