The Health and Environment Modeling (HEALMOD) Initiative at OSU
The HEALMOD initiative at OSU is a newly-established interdisciplinary community of scholars dedicated to convergence research in the areas of human health and environmental sustainability. Co-administered by the Computational Epidemiology and Math/Statistics faculties at OSU’s College of Public Health, and the Sociology and Anthropology faculties focused on quantitative research, HEALMOD prioritizes quantitative analyses of eco-social determinants of health and coupled human-natural systems.
Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities at HEALMOD
We are currently seeking candidates for three 2-year postdoctoral fellowships. We particularly welcome applicants with backgrounds in computational social science, ecology, epidemiology, or applied math/statistics and statistics. Areas of emphasis include:
– Mathematical/statistical modeling using dynamical systems
– Methods for studying social and ecological systems: – Bayesian inference
– Machine learning
– AI-based methods
– Data mending
– Multiscale and multi-stream dynamical data systems
Preference for one of the positions will be given to candidates with a degree in the social sciences, such as Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology, etc. These positions are open immediately and will remain so until suitable candidates are identified.
We are especially interested in individuals with experience using the aforementioned advanced methods to model and understand interactions between sociocultural, behavioral, physiological, and environmental determinants of health. Some experience and interest in human and environmental microbiomes analysis is also welcomed.
Start Date:
The position offers a flexible start date, with the anticipated commencement period ranging from November 1st, 2023, to March 1st, 2024.
