Mathematics in Medicine
Abstract
In medical science, there are many questions that need to be answered in a scientifically sound way.
Is a new treatment more effective than another?
Is there a benefit to vaccinate against a disease and who should be prioritised?
Are there specific risk factors associated with the occurrence of a disease? In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to answer important questions in real time and, in recent years, mathematical models have guided policy-making in the response to the pandemic.
In this talk, we will discuss these questions and we will have a glimpse in the vast field of applications of mathematics in medicine.
