1. ENTRY PROCEDURE AND CONDITIONS – NUMBER OF ENTRANTS

The number of students admitted to the MSc program is limited to a maximum of 40 per year. The exact number for each year will be determined according to the infrastructure of the departments, the number of faculty members and the need for qualified graduates. Graduates of Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Biology, Pharmacy and other University departments in Greece or corresponding departments abroad as well as the graduates of corresponding departments of Technological Institutes are accepted.

Candidates can be Graduates of the aforementioned schools as well as students of the same schools, who at the end of the September examination period will have successfully completed their studies and will have presented a relevant certificate by October 15. Selection criteria are based on the grades in relevant to the MSc undergraduate courses (Probability and Statistical Inference or Biostatistics and Introduction to Epidemiology depending on the graduate degree), degree grade, any theses and/or scientific publications, letters of recommendation, an interview and proof of the English language proficiency. More details on the entry procedure and conditions are given in article 4 of the internal regulation.

2. DURATION

The duration for awarding the MSc degree is 4 academic semesters including the time for preparation of the diploma thesis. An extension is possible following a reasonable application by the student and approval by the Study Program Committee. The extension cannot exceed 2 academic semesters. Thus, the maximum time allowed to complete the MSc is 6 academic semesters.

3. CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING THE DEGREE

Each graduate student is required to successfully complete a number of the offered graduate courses. She/He must also attend the lectures and prepare the course’ exercises. A postgraduate student who has not completed 75% of the attendance hours (lectures and exercises) of each course cannot participate in the course exams. In order to obtain the MSC in Biostatistics and Health Data Science, it is necessary to accumulate at least 90 credits (ECTS) from compulsory and/or elective courses and to prepare a dissertation thesis after the 3rd semester of studies (additional 30 credits), on a topic related to the courses of the program.

4. SPECIAL GRADUATE STUDENT CATEGORIES

Candidate postgraduate students who have attended postgraduate studies in Biostatistics or other related specialties in other HEIs, or hold a D.M.S. in Biostatistics or other related specialties can, with their application, request to join the P.M.S.. Their selection is made according to the procedures described in the internal regulations. Any recognition of postgraduate courses, which have been successfully attended at other HEIs, is done upon request of the interested party (see article 6 of the internal regulation).

5. OTHER OBLIGATIONS OF GRADUATE STUDENTS

A) Postgraduate students are invited to participate and attend seminars of research groups, bibliographic information discussions, laboratory visits, conferences/workshops with a subject related to that of the PMS, lectures or other scientific events of the PMS, etc.

B) For their participation in the PMS "Biostatistics", postgraduate students pay tuition fees amounting to 950 euros per semester, unless they are exempted based on the provisions of paragraph 5 of article 2.7 of Law 4485/2017.

6. TUITION WAIVERS-SCHOLARSHIPS

A) In accordance with the provisions of Law 4485/2017, PMS students who are citizens of the European Union, whose individual income, if they have the same income, and the available family equivalent income do not independently exceed, are exempted from tuition fees, the individual one hundred percent (100%), and the family seventy percent (70%) of the national median disposable equivalent income, according to the most recent data published each time by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). This exemption is granted for participation in a single PMS. In any case, exempt students do not exceed thirty percent (30%) of the total number of students admitted to the PMS. If the beneficiaries exceed the percentage of the previous paragraph, they are selected in order of ranking starting from those with the lowest income (art. 35, par. 2, Law 4485/17).

B) It is possible to grant scholarships to second-year students based on academic criteria.

C) There is the possibility of postgraduate students participating in the ERASMUS program, provided they have successfully completed the first semester of their studies at PMS and meet the criterion of knowledge of the host University's language of instruction as well.
