We have 2 openings for PhD positions at Leiden University Medical Center (the Netherlands), as part of the “Safe Causal Inference” consortium with experts from biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, and epidemiology. The projects focus on data-driven evaluation of prediction algorithms that incorporate the causal effects of medical treatments. Regular model assessment techniques such as cross-validation cannot be used in this context since ground truth causal quantities are never observed. To solve this problem, the PhD candidates will develop novel performance criteria to evaluate causal prediction algorithms.
Supervisors: Jesse Krijthe, Saskia le Cessie, Aad van der Vaart and Nan van Geloven
