K. Tsilidis

Dr. Tsilidis is a Professor in Epidemiology at the University of Ioannina School of Medicine in Greece. He also holds Associate Professor positions in Cancer Epidemiology at Imperial College London and at the University of Bristol. Dr Tsilidis completed his doctoral training at the Department of Epidemiology of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health under a J. William Fulbright scholarship. He performed post-doctoral research at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit of the University of Oxford. He also holds Master’s degrees in Public Health and Biostatistics from the University of Athens and Johns Hopkins, respectively. He is leading the World Cancer Research Fund Global Cancer Update Programme at Imperial College London, where he conducts regular evidence syntheses of the epidemiological literature on the role of diet, nutrition, anthropometric characteristics and physical activity on cancer prevention and prognosis. He is a molecular epidemiologist with a strong focus on cancer aetiology and prevention. His research focuses on the role of genetic, dietary, metabolic and hormonal pathways in cancer development, prognosis and survival. He has written more than 300 scientific papers published in international high-impact journals, and has received more than 16,000 citations (Google scholar h-index: 65). He is the PI of the Epirus Health Study, an ongoing highly-phenotyped cohort in Greece. His research has been funded by national and international bodies (e.g. European Union, Cancer Research UK, World Cancer Research Fund, UK Research and Innovation, Hellenic Republic, etc.). He participates in important worldwide research consortia (e.g. EPIC, GECCO, PRACTICAL, CHANCES, BPC3, COMETS, SCALLOP, etc.), and has extensive experience in coordinating and assessing research initiatives and health policy activities (e.g. World Cancer Research Fund Continuous Update Project Transition Panel, Against Breast Cancer Scientific Advisory Board, Hellenic National Committee on Nutritional Policy, etc.).
