PhD Position in Biostatistics – Causal Inference and Statistical Methodology for Rare Liver Disease
The Department of Biostatistics at Erasmus MC (Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands) invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Biostatistics focused on causal inference methodology and its application to primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare liver disease.
The project is part of an international research consortium funded through the European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA) Joint Transnational Call 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel statistical and causal inference methods, including:
- Causal interpretation of correlations in gene expression studies
- Causal discovery algorithms for spatial transcriptomics data
- Statistical theory for causal discovery of effect modifiers
The PhD candidate will also collaborate with clinicians, biologists, and statisticians across Europe and participate in the analysis of complex biomedical datasets.
Requirements
- MSc in Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- Strong interest in statistical methodology and causal inference
- Knowledge of R, Python, causal inference, or transcriptomics is an asset
- Excellent communication skills in English
